What is A SMD capacitor, or Surface Mount Device capacitor ?


A SMD capacitor, or Surface Mount Device capacitor, is a type of electronic component designed to be directly mounted onto the surface of a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) using Surface Mount Technology (SMT). Unlike traditional capacitors with wire leads that are inserted through holes in the PCB, SMD capacitors have metalized terminations (pads or short leads) that are soldered directly to the surface of the board.
